Early Help Workforce Development Programme is an initiative to upskill professionals who are working with children, young people and or with families in Newham. The aim is to train professionals to build their knowledge, competency and confidence to be able to support families because we believe that Early Help is everyone’s business.
3 x half day modules form core training programme for any professional wanting to learn more about how Early Help systems operate in Newham and understand how to support families using an evidence based structures/strategies.
Module 1 ; Introduction to Early Help and Early Help Assessment - 7th November 2024 (09.00 - 12.00)
This module will
- cover importance of Early Help support and its role within safeguarding children/young people as well as Newham’s approach to early intervention and support for families?
- explore on latest legislative and policy framework e.g. Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023
- focus on the structures, purpose and principles in conduction EH assessment, how to develop an effective family plan in collaboration with the family and other agencies
- explore way to escalate concerns and celebrating successes
- introduce participants to key tools, templates and resources they can use in their EH practice
Module 2 ; Relationship Based Practice and Systemic Thinking - 13th November 2024 ( 09.00- 12.00)
This session of the core training programme will:
- explore what we mean by relationship based practice and how we can work with families to build on their existing strengths and capability
- introduce to systemic principles and ways of understanding a family’s narrative
- introduce to the significance of genograms to understand a family’s way of relating and patterns of behaviour
Module 3: Role of Lead practitioner and Team Around Family (TAF) Meetings 21st November 2024 (09.00-12.00)
Final module will
- focus on key principles and purpose of Lead Practitioner role within EH system and explore questions including who should be the Lead Practitioner and core skills needed to engage with family and multi-agency partners
- Explore purpose and function of Team Around Family (TAF)meetings and how it fits within the wider early help and safeguarding framework
- Learn how to co-ordinate effective multiagency meetings and create an actionable TAF plan based on the needs identified in the assessment.
The training sessions are all delivered online and are free to attend for all staff working in schools (including DSLs, Deputy DSLs, Pastoral Care Teams, Attendance Monitoring Officers, SENCOs and Family Support Practitioners), Children’s Health teams, local authority Early Help services and voluntary and faith sector.
The programme designed to equip practitioners with the knowledge and practical skills to understand their role in Early Help system, gain better understanding of relational practice and systemic ideas, conduct effective Early Help assessments and create collaborative plans that make a real difference to families.
Sessions are designed to be interactive so where possible attend via a laptop with your camera on, ready to participate.
