“A guide to multi-agency working to help, protect and promote the welfare of children“
The welfare of children is of paramount importance. They deserve to be nurtured in a secure and stable environment. All agencies must be clear about their commitment to providing these children and their families the best possible support.
The Working Together framework aims to provide a set of expectations for all parties involved in the protection of children. It defines the various processes and systems that should be used to support and protect kids.
In 1999, the Working Together guidance was published and revised many times. Following the death of Victoria, the government launched a public inquiry. This led to the enactment of the Children Act of 2004.
It was revised following the tragic death of Victoria Climbeé and many times over the decade. The latest version, published in December 2023, set out the various agencies and professionals that should work together to protect children from neglect and abuse and states the role of multiple agencies, sectors and professionals safeguarding responsibilities.
